Re: Does Autosomal DNA contain Haplogroup data ?
Thought I'd better do some digging myself on this so bought 'Tracing Your Ancestors Using DNA' (Ed. Graham S Holton). Very good if you're looking for something on the subject. And, yes, the DNA of our ancestors in the direct male and female lines goes into the mixing-pot that is the 22 autosome pair...

Re: Does Autosomal DNA contain Haplogroup data ?
I would have thought so, too, Peter.
But that's only my own feeling, I was hoping someone could tell me definitively.

Does Autosomal DNA contain Haplogroup data ?
Here's one that's a bit specialised, but it's got me puzzled. Pretty much every Genealogy website provides Autosomal DNA testing. That is, the DNA test examines the 22 autosome pairs. In addition to the Autosomal pairs, there's Y-chromosome DNA (passed down the father-son male line). And Mitochondri...

Abbreviations used in Poll Books
I'm looking through some old Poll Book transcriptions, and, helpfully, they don't have a list of abbreviations. In the 'Entitlement to vote' columns, fr and rt are used. Would I be correct in thinking that these are short for 'freehold' (i.e. owns the land) and 'rented' ? And in the qualification co...

My wife's grandfather was a Rigger at Elstree Film studios in Borehamwood during the 1950's.
Does anyone know if there are any employment records we could look at to see what he was doing there ?

St. Christopher's Mission Church, Walker, Northumberland
I have been doing some research into ancestors based in Allendale, Northumberland during the 18th and 19th Centuries. I've noticed that several have burial entries for "St. Christopher's Mission Church, Walker". Walker is a considerable distance (for the period we're discussing) from Allen...

Re: Missing records
Thanks for the reply. I thought the medal rolls were the minimum I'd find, but he's just not there !! His discharge papers were a little tattered, so I'm missing some details, but what I have is: Patrick Monaghan Private, 20364 Enlisted, 7 January,1916 ? Dragoons South Irish Horse ? Lancers To Reser...

Missing records
I have my Grandfather's army discharge papers from the First World War - he served from 1916 to 1919. However I can find nothing regarding his service on-line. Literally nothing, even though I have enlistment / discharge dates, Regiments and a service number. I know many service records were lost du...

Re: 'Kindred' used in Irish Marriage Registers
Thanks very much for that, Gardener.
And I agree, SRD, more people should know about it.
It could be really useful in proving a link, especially where the relationship is first cousins.

Re: 'Kindred' used in Irish Marriage Registers
Thanks for replying to my query. The Kilmore-Eris Registers only go back to 1860, so if the 'Kindred' column did record relations further back in time it would be an invaluable source of information. As you say, the Parish encompasses a relatively small population - basically the inhabitants of the ...

'Kindred' used in Irish Marriage Registers
I've been working my way through the Marriage Register (seemingly pre-1845 format) for Kilmore-Eris Parish in Mayo. m Has anyone got any idea what the 'Kindred' column is used for ? The incumbent has obviously used shorthand when filling in the details, but unfortunately has neglected to record a ke...
