Re: Yet more Londoners: McCARTHYs, b Irel c1840, kids b Lond

Thanks, BCW. I had spotted Annarah, but hadn't realised she might be Honorah, so to me she was just yet another one of 28 "McCARTHY/CONNOR" (or so) children in StGiles/Holborn born 1858-1891 who I had spotted. But now I can see "Annarah" and "Honorah" might be different...

Re: John Edward GREY, Cabinet Maker, Bethnal Green late C19

This is still largely "on hold", but meanwhile the GRO website has enabled me to find two more of JEG's children - Annie and Eliza. Thanks BCW for pointing me to the GRO website. Family story is there were 13 children: I've found births for 12 of them now :-)

Update: I have just found that Michael Joe married as "Joseph Michael" (1898).

Re: John William Taylor

Going to need more info to stand a chance of helping. Any clue where he would have been apart from the marriage in Windsor? Accessing his marriage certificate would give his Father's name and occupation, that could help enormously, and may well have other relatives as witnesses. GRO website - www.gr...

Yet more Londoners: McCARTHYs, b Irel c1840, kids b London

Now I’m trying to figure out about the MCCARTHY family who were in Finsbury 1881 and Holborn 1891. I have images of the two censuses. Census 1891 22 Johns Mews, Holborn (St Andrew Holborn Above The Bars And St George The ...) Michael MCCARTHY Head m 54 G Laborer [sic], employed, b Ireland Tralee Ann...

Re: Job JENKINS, London Baker, son of Job, bricklayer c1820

Thanks, both. My hunch is that, rather than "JENKINSON" in a different part of London, Charles was likely to have been born in Kentish Town, either before official records started in 1837, or alternatively he was not registered according to the requirements (it seems that at first they had...

Re: Job JENKINS, London Baker, son of Job, bricklayer c1820

One final loose end I would like to tie up: Charles JENKINS was on the 1841 census age 3, and at 1861, I think it his hm who appears on the census - m, suggesting he married - Louisa, presumaby SMITH. But I can't find any information about birth or marriage. I'm sure his mother was Jane nee BURRELL,...

If you have year of death +/- 2 years, www.gro.gov.uk is more useful than the excellent FreeBMD (I've taken to using both FreeBMD and www.gro.gov.uk)

Re: Job JENKINS, London Baker, son of Job, bricklayer c1820

I've been able to make a bit more progress on JENKINS. I know have gggg grandparents (and a baptism that I suspect gives previous generation), and got outside London at last (a lot of my family seem to have been in London in the mid C19: for each line my aim is to get outside London). Thanks for the...

Re: Job JENKINS, London Baker, son of Job, bricklayer c1820

Thanks, both, for the reasurances. Knowing that the 1837 marriage has Bricklayers helps reassure, and there are a few other helpful detais here: so, I will continue with the JENKINS/BURRELL line.

Archive: Job JENKINS, Baker, son of Job, brick c1820-50s

I've been trying to untangle the London JENKINS' (before I get back to the GREYs ...see other topic). My ancestor Job JENKINS (a baker) married Fanny Maria MIZEN in 1856 (I have the certified copy from the GRO) at St George Hanover Sq, London. Job's father is named as Job JENKINS, bricklayer. So far...

Well, I think I have ruled out John Edward GRAY b sep q 1874 St Panc GRAY/CROMMELIN - parents seem to be Samuel Octavius Gray and Anne Charlotte Isabella Crommelin

Re: John Edward GREY, Cabinet Maker, Bethnal Green late C19

Thanks, gardener. No, no further for the time being. I have been focussing on other lines, and making some quick progress - not just parent, but grandparent, and on one line, even a great-grandparent of the earliest relative in that line have been added over the last couple of day. Mind you, it's no...

Re: John Edward GREY, Cabinet Maker, Bethnal Green late C19

Wow, BC Wench. Once again you amaze me! Thank heavens that is what you had already found: I'm getting embarrassed how much you are helping me/my family. It really does look like I will have to get birth certs for J.E.G. The question is, which do I pay £ for first? I like to get things as worked out ...

Re: John Edward GREY, Cabinet Maker, Bethnal Green late C19

For all of the wonderful help from BC Wench, I have been a bit uneasy about the GRAY/THURLOW birth. I now suspect the relevant birth was registered John Edward GRAY Dec q in Bethnal Green, mother nee CARTER. Checking out now, if the 1939 register Dob is correct, it could have been registered Dec q, ...
