Re: Deciphering census record
I'd go with 'primer' for the occupation - if it were 'printer' I think the 't' would be more noticeable. For the birthplace, 'Midx' is probably an abbreviation of Middlesex, especially considering the ditto on the entry below before St Martins. For the second part, I'm tempted to say perhaps 'Shoe L...

My 3x great grandfather James Pullen is living on/by Mitcham Common, Surrey in the 1881 census: John Powell, age 80, widower, tinker, birthplace not known James Pullen, age 28, unmarried, lab, born Wisley ...

Re: Non-existent birth registrations!
Yes, I have the birth registrations for the other Pountney children - it's only Mary Alice and Albert that I can't find. You're correct with that birth reg. for Mercy though, Elijah married Eliza Barnett (nee Johnson) in 1892 - Mercy, Eliza and Harriett on the 1891 census are Eliza's children from a...

Help reading military record - reading old handwriting!
Can anyone read what the last entry is under the country column?
Probably glaringly obvious but reading old cursive has never been my strong suit!

Re: Dorothy Rose Laker
Thanks Jimmy, I don't suppose anyone can find them in the 1939 Register can they? Can't see image as I don't have a paying subscription to FMP at the moment but searching for 'Dorothy Rose Hart b.1901' got a hit for me in the 1939 register. Second result: Dorothy Hart, born 1900, living in Eastbour...

Re: Missing Marriage 1840s
I think Richard married Harriett Alice Marsh, daughter of Nathaniel Marsh (provided I traced him backwards correctly!!) Richard, son of Isabella Rogers, is the only Richard Rogers I've found that gave his birthplace as Woolwich, which is what Richard William, who married Harriett Marsh, does consist...

Re: Missing Marriage 1840s
Yes, those are the ones Jimmy. No, I've never seen the actual record of Hannah's baptism. I'm working with FamilySearch as I don't have a subscription to a paying site at the moment, so I can only see transcriptions. Father's occupation of ship's carpenter on her baptism does fit with the father's o...
