Re: Richard Hill, born about 1810 in Yorkshire area

Hi again all, A bit more information and wondered what your thoughts were on this. On his naturalization papers, it states he is from "York County, England." A poster on Ancestry.com stated that there is an Agnes Nelson, who married Thomas Hill on 30 Apr 1808 • Dent, Yorkshire, England. Th...

Re: Richard Hill, born about 1810 in Yorkshire area

Hi all, So looking at a potential ship manifest and his naturalization record, Richard Hill could have been born in 1813 instead of 1810 (like is on his gravestone.) On his biography in Indiana, it says he was born in 1813 in England. Served a 4 year apprenticeship in London. The naturalization reco...

Re: Richard Hill, born about 1810 in Yorkshire area

Thanks Jimmy. That is actually MY entry on findagrave.com. We went down to that cemetery and that's what is on his tombstone for his birthday! It's too bad we can't "assume" any date - even on a gravestone! But that's what I have. I know the death date on there is correct 100%.

Re: Richard Hill, born about 1810 in Yorkshire area

Thanks for the clarification on deactivation. I guess i'll just stay put here. I *THINK* this is him (even though his age differs) - based on the familiar names around him who ended up settling in the same town in Indiana. m Also, I tried attaching his naturalization papers but you don't accept PDF ...

ARC TBC Richard Hill, born about 1810 in Yorkshire area

Hi all, This references this archived post, which I didn't want archived: https://www.genealogyforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=20014&p=198287&hilit=richard+hill#p198287 I'm still at a brick wall on him. I posted the naturalization papers but no one replied. Just don't know where t...

Re: Richard Hill, born about 1810 in Yorkshire area

Hi all! I wanted to post an update. I found his naturalization papers in Indiana -- and in Richard's words, he states that he "reached" the United States on 16 June 1841. That ship that we were talking about before *arrived*(?) on 28 May 1841. This seems too close a coincidence for it not ...

Re: Richard Hill, born about 1810 in Yorkshire area

Hi! I thought I'd send another note about this. Any other ideas of how to further find more information on him? Are there any other records related to immigration and that passenger list I found a Richard Hill on? Would be great if there was another record for that that i haven't seen other than the...

Ahh, yes. I'm not sure why they added an "S" to Hill but that is definitely my ancestor's family.

Re: Richard Hill, born about 1810 in Yorkshire area

Hi! Yes, it frustrates me to no end! I just want a breakthrough! An example of a document saying "Yorkshire, England" is the 1860 census for him. Another researcher had told me that a Nelson close by also had said "Yorkshire" so they looked her up (think it was Jane?) and she hap...
