It might depend on if the father was present or not for the registration. If only the mother registered the birth then the father's name could not be included as a surname for the child. Something like that. But he did register Eileen's birth but he didn't reveal himself as the father. It's a surpr...

Thanks Peter. It does look like a good match. I've found three generations thus far working on the railways. I think the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway records may provide some missing info on the move from Cheshire to Lincolnshire. I shall look into it further and this is a great st...

Thanks Peter. So to get further I need to order these birth certificates? Perhaps one at a time to keep down costs? Or is there another way forward using this info?
