Re: Finding Granddad
That was a good find gardener, in the 1939 Register Granddad gave is birthdate as 20 Nov 1881 the same date Alfred HONOR 1st was born. Only Alfred died shortly after, which I'm hoping to confirm when I receive the certificates. It looks as though the old fox took on his brother's birth date making h...

Re: Finding Granddad
He may be listed as Albert E Oner but that's the first time I've seen his birth year as 1881 (the year Alfred HONOR was born). When Granddad enlisted in 4 Nov 1897 he gave his age as 18 years and 4 months, meaning he was born July 1879, a two year difference! I don't have a Find My Past subscription...

Re: Finding Granddad
Have just sent off for birth & death certificates for all the HONOR children, except death of Alfred 2nd (Granddad) & Joseph, I've no idea where he was at death. I'll try the local libraries for newspaper notices.

Re: Finding Granddad
Death notices, no I haven't. This is a line of research I've recently started. I've rarely searched news paper notices as I've had little success. Any advise?

Re: Finding Granddad
You're right Northern Lass, GBP 9.25, I must have been in too much of a hurry. Mind you, I'll have to wait a good few weeks as it's standard mail to Australia.

Re: Finding Granddad
You're right Jimmy, Granddad Albert E ONER died and was buried in Petersfield, Hampshire. He and my Grandmother lived not far from our house and his two sons, Victor and Norman, lived even closer with their families. Although the crotchety old so and so had a colourful army career he was not much of...

Re: Finding Granddad
You’ve been very busy BC Wench, and thank you for taking the trouble. Although I have much of the information you’ve found, you’ve confirmed my conclusion that Alfred and Albert are one of the same person. The records I don’t have are the burials of Hannah Honour, 6 days after her death and William’...

Re: Finding Granddad
Yes gardener, Elizabeth did marry and I'm trying to track down her descendants now. There is also a brother Joseph. He joined the Royal Engineers at Aldershot and was dishonourably discharged for incorrectly enlisting with the militia. Could be that after Mum died in 1892 the family went to pot with...

Re: Finding Granddad
The attached file Gardener is a copy of the 'entry of death' I found among my Mother's papers. Hannah Honour (or Honor) nee Giles, was the Mother of Alfred Honor. By the way, she and William had two sons named Alfred, the first one died within a year.

Re: Finding Granddad
Unfortunately Perterd, Albert Edward ONER'S father William was a 'deceased' 'labourer' at the time of his marriage to my Grandmother and the witnesses were Grannie's father and William Alfred Chessell, a stranger to me.

ARC TBC Finding Granddad
After spending a huge amount of time searching for my Grandfather's ancestors, without success, I'm hoping somebody on Genealogy Forum UK is able to help. In short there are two men, with different names, whom I believe are the same man. The only way to prove this is to find out if the age pension w...

Finding Grandad
Hello everybody, Born and raised in Hampshire, I emigrated to Australia in 1970 and have lived here since. For many years I've been researching my Father's family and Mother's (maternal) family, much of it on Ancestry, with a lot of success. Mother's Father is another matter. Granddad changed his na...
