Ok marriage certificate has arrived. Confirms James Ryan born Jan 1837 st marys liverpool. Father John Ryan bootmaker. So now have to trawl 1841 census for a John Ryan boot maker with toddler - wish me luck

I tried that. Cannot find any census record . I do know that in 1857 he joined the Army- attestation papers show enlistment to Royal Irish 86th in Dublin. But Helen and John are proving hard to trace... I'm determined to crack this one!
