the first word which you asked about of to my eye looked like inquest.but having seen the other interpretation as in arrest and bearing in mind it is written in a military context,the later interpretation seems the more plausable.

i hope this is the correct section to post this note. the express and star subject to lottery funding are going to make availiable 139 years of archived photos freely availiable to the public online.this along with the information with each picture should open up a whole world for some members.

thanks for the info rf,ive been waiting for the snow to clear. now the archives will be closed for easter i suppose.it must have been tough in the ancesters days with poor heating,light and no hot running water, etc etc etc regards bcb.

You will need to contact Sandwell Archives, as Springfield came under Rowley Regis, here's their web site m If Sandwell Archives is anything like Dudley Archives, they should hold the Council Minutes for the different areas within their County Borough.
