Re: 1881 census Whittington, Derbyshire

Thank you for this. I've concluded that Tamery is a misreading of Fanny who became Frances somewhen. A Frances Robinson, father John married William Meeklah. Frances Meeklah was born 12 Jan in Whittington according to 1939 register and same birth date according to death register.

ARC tbc1881 census Whittington, Derbyshire

I don't have free access to Ancestry nor time to go to the library when it's open. I was hoping someone could look up this one for me. The census has John Robinson b 1846 Penistone Sarah Robinson b 1850 (Nottinghamshire or Ilkes ton, Derbyshire not sure what ancestry gave me) Hannah b 1868 Penistone...

Re: John Smith

Thank you for that, BC. I didn't know about FreeREG nor the 1939 register. I did know that Edith's parents lived next door. Unfortunately very little of Mundy Street exists now and a few houses on Belper Street were knocked down to be replaced by a car park for a factory including number 36. I wish ...

Re: John Smith

I know it's a long time ago when I started this but in talking to an uncle I started going back over what I'd found and noticed Ancestry had come up with more hints. One is a Wliiam Henry Smith baptised in Woodville in 1879, father Robert and mother Annie. However I think this is a nasty coincidence...

ARC TBC...Barnsley 9c 314

I've posted in the beginners section even though I've been doing this a while but wanted to ask a question about marriage records found on BMD. My friend David's parents, George William Hunter and Beryl Knight, got married on Feb 29 1936. FreeBMD has this record JanFebMar 1936, Barnsley 9c 314 When ...

FreeBMD marriage query

When you enter the husband's full name and the wife's Christian name looking for her surname, and a range of dates (using an educated guess based on their age and age of eldest child) you get a number. Click on that number and you usually get a list of four names. From this you can usually work out ...

Re: Broadbents of Liverpool and America

Yes that must be him.

I hadn't seen IGI before (Google is your friend) and have found the entries for James, Mary and Ann. Time to start looking for other entries...

Re: Broadbents of Liverpool and America

Thank you so much for all that gardener. One thing I did find today was that there's a lot of Broadbents that emigrated to America and the 28 year old could be another Owen (assuming not a mistake). There was someone looking for male Broadbents trying to tie them in with Saddleworth where some of mi...

Re: Broadbents of Liverpool and America

Update and a couple of requests. This last weekend Ancestry.co.uk had free access to passenger lists and I found lots of travelling for Owen Leader Broadbent with his wife (6 years older than he) but also an O.L. Broadbent and his wife 2 years younger who I think is another family. I also found Owen...

Re: Broadbents of Liverpool and America

Anyway, my query. According to Owen L's US passport application (in 1920) his father emigrated to America in 1857 and stayed there 8 years. But according to Liverpool marriage and bahns he married Anne L in 1858 at Liverpool, St Brides (I realise he could have travelled back for this). 8 years makes...

Re: Broadbents of Liverpool and America

Thank you SRD, unfortunately I don't have much spare time during the day to visit the library but ours does have a subscription to Ancestry. My MiL is Heather Moore, born Oct 1961 in Wirral. Her mother was Rosamunde Margaret Elaine Broadbent but FreeBMD has her as Margaret E R in the marriage to Don...

Broadbents of Liverpool and America COMPLETED

I've just started researching my mother-in-law's ancestors and wondered if anyone could help. I don't have access to any paid accounts, except if I have time when they have free weekends, so mostly use FreeBMD and the Ancestry Apps on my phone and iPad - the latter gives hints, which I can look at a...

Re: Question about BMD

A quick update regarding Dora: according to my mum Dora's father was killed in an explosion at Chilwell. She thought it was in the 30's but wasn't certain. There was a famous explosion in World War I and I think it's that one myself and maybe it was he who was in his 30's. Anyway my sister in law wo...
