Re: Looking for Barrack St, Whittle-le-Woods
I've used http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html , centred on 358160,421440 for Whittle-le-Woods. Also the Lancs Country Council Mario site has very good quality OS 1st edition 1:2500 maps at http://www.mario.lancashire.gov.uk/agsmario/default.aspx though it's not the easiest interface to use, you have...

Looking for Barrack St, Whittle-le-Woods
I've come across an ancestor living at Barrack St in Whittle-le-Woods (near Preston) in 1861. The street is gone now but I cannot spot the name on any old maps either. Whittle-le-Woods is not that big so it ought to be visible though I suspect some of the streets are not named on the maps - if the h...

Re: Maria Coyle 1901 census lookup please
Yes that looks like it, thanks a lot for finding it. I'd tried some surname variations but not that one. Seems like the transcription is all over the place for that entry.

COMPLETED Maria Coyle 1901 census lookup please
I've been using Ancestry but there seems to be some census information missing for 1901 (or I can't find it!). Name: Maria Coyle 1863-1937, married to Peter Coyle 1861-1901; he died in 1901 so may not be in the census. Children: Bernard Coyle 1892-1917, Ellen (Nellie) Coyle 1894-1965, Walter Coyle 1...

Re: Stuck - Mary Ann Hartley/Midgley at Rochdale
Looking at the parish register... That marriage took place on the 9th May 1882 st St. John the Baptist in Halifax. Wilson was 19 and a bachelor. Mary Ann was 18 and a spinster. Wilson was a butcher and his father Richard was also a butcher. This is where is differs... Mary Ann's father was John Mid...

Stuck - Mary Ann Hartley/Midgley at Rochdale
My ancestor Jesse Denton married Mary Ann Hartley in 1892 according to www.lan-opc.org.uk, both widowed, bride's father was William Midgley. Bride's abode Back Drake St, Rochdale. I'm stuck finding an origin for Mary Ann. There seem to be no convincing census records of a Hartley or Midgley around R...

Re: Looking for Stephen St Rochdale and date for Hereford St
That's great, thanks very much!
The street is gone now, built over with flats. Funny though, some of the access roads don't have names. Anyway no matter, thanks again.

Looking for Stephen St Rochdale and date for Hereford St
I've traced some of my relatives and they lived at Stephen St, Rochdale, but this no longer exists. I've found mention of it in documents up to 1942 but no street maps of any age which show it. My ancestors were there in 1871. Does anyone know where this street was or any suggestions for finding it?...
