Re: Joanna Dunn

Only a couple of minor corrections: Joseph & Joanna's eldest son (bp. 1802) was James not Joseph Joanna Dunn nee Edwards was 22 when she died in 1808 (burial register of St. Michael's Church, Brierley Hill) Joseph & Joanna's daughter Ann (1804-1805) died in infancy (burial register of St. Mi...

Re: Joanna Dunn Jo adding

I connect to James Dunn and Sarah nee Forrest (they are my 4x great grandparents) so, if Joseph is their son, then I connect to him and Joanna. I'm descended from James and Sarah's son Silas.

Re: Joanna Dunn

I've been told that James Dunn was wealthy enough to pay a rent at Park Lane Presbyterian Chapel to ensure that the family had their own pews. If this was the case, he could probably afford to educate his sons. Whilst most of James' sons started out as nail makers or chain makers, several of them di...

Joanna Dunn

I think Joanna Dunn https://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=bcconnections&view=0&pid=241640&ver=665583 who married Noah Raybould and Benjamin Attwood was the daughter of Joseph Dunn and Johanna Edwards and that Joseph Dunn is possibly the son of James Dunn and Sarah nee...

Re: Sidney Elcock

Mallosa, Sidney's father was listed as Richard in the 1881, 1891 and 1911 censuses, on the baptisms of two of his children in 1910 and 1913, and on his burial in 1950. He gave his name as George at his marriage to Jane Elizabeth Wooldridge and on the 1901 census. In 1921, he gives his name as Richar...

Re: Sidney Elcock

Thanks, Mallosa. Sidney was the eldest of 6 children born to Richard Elcock and Jane Elizabeth nee Wooldridge, although two of his siblings (Richard and Cyril) died in infancy. His father, Richard, was the eldest of 9 children born to John Elcock and Lilias Ann nee Gough - Lily being a sibling to my...

Re: Death registration

Thanks, Gardener. I have seen other families where a grandchild of a similar age is living with a grandparent to care for them so if that was the case then she would probably have been considered old enough to register the death.

Death registration

Does anyone know how old a person had to be to register a death in 1857? I've recently ordered a death certificate for Susannah Gough and the death was registered by Lucy Gough who was present at the death. Susannah did have a granddaughter named Lucy but she would only have been 13 when Susannah di...

Re: Genealogy sites

I use both Ancestry and FindMyPast. I use Ancestry because it has digital images of parish records for many of the areas that I research (Birmingham, Nottingham, London and now Worcestershire) and I like the facility to search the census by place of birth. FindMyPast has good coverage of Staffordshi...

A brewing question

I'm researching an ancestor who was a beershop keeper in Wednesfield Heath in the 1850s. Apparently, he was in the habit of brewing 600 bushels of malt per annum. How much beer would this make?

Trace making

I have several ancestors in my tree (early 19th century) who give their ocupation as 'Trace Maker'. Many of their descendants are listed as chain makers. I believe that Trace makers made the chain that was used on the harnesses of draught and carriage horses but I can't find anything to confirm this...

Re: John Smitheman 1890-1916 Help to check please

Stephen's parents were Stephen Smithyman and Amelia nee Hall. Maria's parents were John Smithyman and Mary Sophia nee Marsh. Stephen and Amelia were married at St. Thomas's Church, Dudley in 1851. They lived at Tipton in 1861 and 1871 then moved to Wednesbury. They had 11 children. John and Mary Sop...
