Re: Birth/baptism conflict

It may also be because they hadn't registered the baby within the first 6 weeks, which since registration Act 1837 was brought in, if you didn't you would face an hefty fine/imprisonment which still stands today. The church had no powers of fining anybody, so you'll more likely to be truthful to the...

Re: Surmising a probable reasons!

We're talking about 1915-'1930's... First child born in 1915, second in 1922, they married in 1925 and third child born in 1927 The two older children's births were re-registered in 1927 under the legitimacy Act... I know the father served in the war, no surviving service records, so don't know when...

Re: Surmising a probable reasons!

I've ruled out previous marriages... The simplest explanation is that they never felt the need to! But I very much suspect there's a little bit more than that, my theory is based really on finding the money, as there are various factors which could indicate this. But personally I feel that hazarding...

ARC...Surmising a probable reasons!

When facts that you know are accurate but don't make sense, is it right to surmise a probable reason! I have proven facts concerning, when children were born out of wedlock and marriage at a later point between the parents. It was a very big surprise to find this out, as all other evidence supports ...

Re: Newbie

Hi Vicky I second what's been said, about ancestry... Ancestry tree's are pretty good for guidance, but any information does need to be doubled checked and verified, Sometimes it's quite obvious it's wrong, such as on one tree I was looking at, it had Father born 10 year before the son... But other ...

Re: Hi

Hi Welcome to the forum.. As to your Granddad's Campaign medals I would ask your parents or any aunt/uncles if they have them... As it's likely that they are lying around in a relative draw somewhere... Campaign medals for some families are pretty sentimental item's but for other families they are a...

Re: Are these two baptisms the same person!

Some more information... Joseph Paul Buried 20 Nov 1831 aged 4 Months This is the twin brother of the fist Mary Paul.. So wonder if the Second Mary Paul is re-christened in 1833 as Mark suggested! I've done some digging around in the Censuses... And it seem's the Abode, is the cottage you live not a...

Archive tbc..........Are these two baptisms the same person!

Mary Paul Baptised 22 Aug 1831 Father Richard Mother Ann Mary Paul Baptised 26 May 1833 Father Richard Mother Ann Notes, Aged 4 years Both baptised at St Augustine s West Monkton Somerset! I found this, when I was looking for Mary Paull who marr...

Re: Newbie question about transcript books/cd's etc

Thanks for that... I've got a couple already on my 'wish list' not expensive but really wanted to know if they are likely to give me the information I was after, rather than here's a link to where you can buy a copy of that particular entry to see if it's right! I assume that the 'LOOKUP' is based a...

Newbie question about transcript books/cd's etc

I've seen books/cd offering transcripts of parish records but a bit hesitant about buying any, due to not knowing what sort of information I will actually be getting! Would I be getting a full transcript of a entry, or just a index of the entry with the latter I would still have to order a full copy...

Re: Census deviants!

I've taken another look at the actual census, rather than just relying on the transcript and it's my second thought a Months' rather than years! The information tallied up so much, and if a bit of family gossip is true, then ties in and makes a lot of sense.. On the 1871 census, again I'm faced with...

Census deviants!

What sort of deviants can one expect between censuses? I know spelling can alter slightly, more so in the earlier ones.. But how about age! As I found who I was looking for in the 1911 census, everything here tallied up.. So moved onto the 1901 census... The parents name matches, so does their ages ...

Re: What to Expect

Thanks for the information, I'm slowly starting to get my head around it all, and been surprised what I've managed to retrieve on the internet, Just need to unravel Why I can't find hubby's granddad birth certificate, and the names on his marriage certificate differ's from his death certificate! We ...

Re: What to Expect

Thought as much...

Oh well off to say me pennies, just means a little longer wait at times than expected.. But hopefully so good research will help to ensure that I order the right certificates rather than duds..

Told you I was a novice at all this, but I get there I hope..

What to Expect

As I said in my introduction I'm as naive as they come concerning genealogy, so not sure what to expect from where! I checked out our local record/archives office website to see what's on offer and prices... Couple of questions.. If I'm looking for birth, marriage and death certificates, and I know ...
