Re: Foundling

You have to laugh Nikki I signed up provisionarily with ancester.co.uk and read the birth index for the first set of Alex's names to get the 'Vol' and 'Page' of the record. Can I view these pages on line to get the birth dates so that I can reject names too far from 3'1/8/28 or do they have to be ex...

Re: Foundling

Hi NIkki & Alec
There is a noughty idea the I should commit a small crime - not too serious but enough for a DNA record. Then get hold of one of those SPOOKS to look round for likerly family criminals! Maybe not :(

Re: Foundling

Hi. I've just realised that there are pages as well as columns. I've had such a problem typing on my laptop that I've added a separate keyboard. Christmal with family most pleasant. Going to do New Year at a local restaurant - avoiding excessive drinking of course! . 2008 will see me joining genealo...

Re: Foundling

I've emailed Veronica at Evening Standard - which was the Evening News at that time, and the Foundling Museum. I'll let you know. I may have a go at Ancestry.co.uk and go through Alec's list to refine the birth dates. Baff

Re: Foundling

Here is a potted history. I was thought to be about 5 months old when I was found on the doorstep of a convent. I was then transferred to a LCC orphanage in the London area. Its wherabouts I don't know. I was then fostered at about 5 yrs old. They gave me a name and a birth date. In my late teens I ...

Re: Foundling

Thanks Alec. I've not looked at the list yet. I remember turning the pages of the big book for 1928 in the Records Office years ago and wondering if my past was there - I can now repeat that operation.Fantastic!!

Re: Foundling

I've had difficulty in getting back in. Thank you for the list Alec. Why are some items in red and others black?
It looks as though I'm having a long haul, but I've saved the names. Any value in having an unusual blood group?

Re: Foundling

Thanks Nikki. If the weather is bad and I can't get out I might do a little chase. Were records affected by the London bombings during the war?

Re: Foundling

I was deposited at a Leytonstone (London) convent at the end of February 1929 and passed on to the LCC (now GLC) and judged to be 6 months old and given a 'birth' date of 31st August. I was apparently healthy and reasonably well clothed but all means of identification had been removed. This was a pe...

Foundling

I am a female foundling born in London in July, August, September 1928. I do not know what my birth name was. I am happily married, but the person with my original name would not have a record of marriage or death; a single woman still alive! The list must have shortened considerable. I would like t...
