Finding a Lost Convict

Name of Laura Deeley (nee Wheeler) born 1844 Harborne, Staffs. I've lost her after finding her in Knaphill, Woking prison in the 1881 census. I think that's her though she says she's widowed and isn't. Up until that point she's left a fairly easy to follow trail of court convictions. Question: If a ...

COMPLETED: Marriage Halesowen 1775

William Deeley Anne Barnett 3 July 1775 Halesowen, Worcester. Taken from an IGI index but I'm wondering if there will be any more information available to be found? I know a lot of early parish registers did not include groom's age or father's name but without them I'm stumped as to where my William...

Re: Ancestor in Merchant Navy - how to trace

Sticking with old newspapers ...
I've just had another thought.

A lot of libraries, in the UK and abroad have already paid to have access to old copies of 'The Times', so it might be worthwhile to check your library first.

Re: Ancestor in Merchant Navy - how to trace

I had a branch of the family in the merchant navy. They never worked for the East India Company though. I think there's a lot of info about the EIO in the British Library but that might not be much use to you if you're based in the USA as I don't think it's online. However ... as mine owned their ow...

Re: Hi from Morty

Hi morty Welcome to the forum here the list of our deeley on bcc tree m I spotted that linky and had a peep. Sadly, I couldn't see any of my Deeley family on there. However ... Re: Hi from Morty

Wonderful! And thank you for the welcome.

I'm from Samuel and Rosannah Deeley, in Harborne, originally from Halesowen as far as I know.
My ancestor strayed upto Staffordshire.

Re: Were Granny and Grandad fibbers ? !

You're probably doing nothing wrong. I could be wrong, free BMD is a great, useful tool but I think their death coverage is only up to about the 1960's then tends to peter out a bit. Similar with Family Search , their records concentrate on parish entries (ie. pre- 1850) Don't know if this is the co...

Re: Returner X 4

Keep at it Kleftiwallah.
I was stuck on mothers family for over 5 years. I know how frustrating it can be!
I managed it in the end though.
I'll gladly help with any lookups if you need any doing.

Just had a thought. Not sure of the etiquette here. So apologies if someone else deals with that.

Re: Were Granny and Grandad fibbers ? !

Yes, the chances are they fibbed. I've come across loads of discrepancies in my own family research. Ages, father's names or lack of them. The most intriguing the fact that my mum had a different surname to her own father. The quest began in earnest then, as to why. It had me stumped for over 5 year...
