Re: Cannot trace ggg grandmother + family not on 1841 cens
Yes I found them on the 1851 census ok. It is the 1841 entry I cannot find, although I know (from electoral and rates records) they were living there then as well.

ARC TBC - Cannot trace ggg grandmother on 1841 census
My ancestor John Jacob Rietiker (born c 1797) arrived in London from Switzerland sometime in the early 19c and settled in the Soho area. In around 1826 he married Mary Sealy (born c1802 in Stansfield in Suffolk). They married locally to him in London and this is in the marriage registers. In 1835 he...

Re: Why can't I access anything on family search any more?
Are you representing the Church of the LDS? I have no wish to be disrepectful but the new site is a disaster as far as I am concerned. I have registered as a user and to start with, when I try to do a search, often the search box is replaced with one called Loading which does not work. I may have to...

Yes that's the one I have been trying to use. It doesn't find anything like the matches it used to and when it does you are referred to BMD to pay to see the record. Grr.

Why can't I access anything on family search any more?
I had been working on my family history until last year, and often looked up supplementary information on the Family Search site (I have a sub to "ancestry"). Then late last year I found I could not get access to Family Search although I registered as a public user, but this seemed to be b...

Ancestor was in 5th Division Guards based Leeds - help?
I have tracked my ancestor, I think, via the 1881 census, to Leeds Barracks where he is recorded as a member of the 5th Division Guards. But that is all it says. 5th Division of what? What regiment etc? Can anyone help?

Finding records for East Riding Yorkshire Jackson ancestors
My Jackson ancestors are from Pocklington and York in Yorkshire. All the men were called Matthew, John, Richard and Thomas and the women Elizabeth and Ann. This makes it relatively easy to pick out the family units but harder to separate the generations. Also on some sites York is used interchangeab...

Looking for Thomas Jackson born Pocklington Yorks 1758
I am trying to track down an ancestor Thomas Jackson born 23 October 1758 in Pocklington Yorkshire, son of Matthew and Anne Jackson. I have found his birth on family search but there is no trace on ancestry and I am wondering how to progress it further. Any suggestions?

Ancestor in Merchant Navy - how to trace
One of my ancestors was in the merchant navy from around 1837-1850. He was born and lived in Holland where his father, a British subject was working at the time but was orphaned at an early age and decided to go to sea. His guardian was an English Uncle in Yorkshire and he had a lot of relatives in ...

Re: Where to find bankrupt ancestor records?
Not really a lot of help - NA search showed that the original records were held in York archives and provided a link but on the page concerned, none of the links there worked. So I emailed York city archives who responded that the archives are currently closed to the public - there are meet the arch...

Where to find bankrupt ancestor records?
I have found a reference in the London Gazette to someone I believe is an ancestor, appearing at the Court House in York on 12th March 1829 at the Court for the Relief of Insolvent Debtors. What is this and how can I find out what happened to him next? I can't find him in the criminal records for th...
