Sounds like I could do with that alarm.. :)

Re: Barking up the wrong tree?

Hi Linell, is the IGI the one on familysearch? If so, I have tried it.. If not then no I probably haven't.

Looking at it with fresh eyes this morning has made it all a little more clear though...

Re: Barking up the wrong tree?

Thanks Linell, I know nobody can tell me who my family are, I just needed a little confirmation that I've barked up the wrong tree (I'd already decided). Mathsgirl, I didn't know that sometimes people were recorded twice. (interesting!) I haven't found any baptism's as I don't have access to Parish ...

*Archive?* Barking up the wrong tree?

Hi again, I'm sorry for picking your collective brain so frequently but I think I'm barking up the wrong tree. It isn't helped that I'm trying to climb the tree of one of the most common surnames... EVANS!!! How fun!? I know ultimately I'll have to order certs but until that point comes I've been lo...

Visiting the record office

Good Evening everyone.. Just a quick question. I plan to visit my local records office in the not so distant future. How do you prepare for a visit? I have a fair few names/families I want to look up but I just don't know how to take it all with me. Do you just write the names/rough date of birth/pa...

Re: Missing Marriages and Maiden Names on Birth Certificates

I've had a response from the GFHS and they do still hold a helpdesk in the local library so I'll be presenting them with my problem and seeing if they can point me in the right direction...

Re: confused.com

It's verifying the information I find the most difficult because I just haven't got the time or money to do it. I have found 1 descendant of my 2 or 3x great grandfather and we've verified it together. She contacted me through ancestry. I made a start on editing my tree last night to make clear whet...

Re: confused.com

Sorry to bring this thread back again... But I have to laugh because back when I started I made a massive error with my tree on the Bruce line. I added in a whole other tree where the father was born AFTER the son. I felt so proud I had gone so far back, then I looked at it and realised the problem....

Re: Missing Marriages and Maiden Names on Birth Certificates

I'm hoping so.. I have found an old PDF document from Gwent Family History Society saying that the chepstow branch visit the library every month so I'm hoping this is still the case and I'll take a trip there... :)

I'm so intrigued.

Re: Missing Marriages and Maiden Names on Birth Certificates

It looks as though he worked there, but I don't think it was a workhouse, and by 1954 if it had once been a workhouse it wouldn't have been any longer! I googled it and came up with this: m Yep, I've found a little more info on it since I posted the last message. In the 1930's the Workhouse became ...
