ARC PENDING MORE INFO .........Thomas Williams-Sophia Clarke
I am looking for information on Thomas Williams (my maternal grandfather). All I know of him is that he was a steelworker in the Black Country in the 1920's-30's (but also in Glasgow and South Wales). Probably born around 1890 in the Black Country. Married Ann Sophia Clark(e) probably during the 1st...

Re: Colliery names
Success! At least with the location - found Brandon Colliery (Pits 3,4 & 5) on a 1904 OS map near Brades Village, either side of West Bromwich Street where it passes under the Stour Valley Line railway. There is a modern Brandon Way running from Bromford Road to Greets Green Road to the east of ...

Re: Boatman
It was info sent to me by a relative, don't know where they got it and can't find the original. It gave Richard Wills, boatman, married to Elizabeth (unknown) and the children as listed in the 1881 Tipton Road details.

Yes, these are as far back as I have found so far; and also Harriet's husband, George Clark (b1869), which is the line down to me.

Colliery names
One of my relatives, Joseph Keefe, was killed in an accident at "Brandon-on-the-moor" colliery, along with George Day and Joseph Cornwell, on 25th February 1905. I can find no record of this, or even the place - the only results from a Google search refer to Brandon in Co Durham, which lie...

Some of my ancestors are listed as boatman or canal worker - can anyone direct me to resources where I might find more details?
