Re: Mordecai Skelton

I notice you've got the 1846 acquittal in Shropshire registers attached to him on Ancestry. If you're confident that record relates to the right person, if it was me, I'd be checking the full registers for Dawley Magna, Shropshire. There's another Mordecai Skelton born there 1800, died 1817. I would...

IMPORTANT NOTICE: *** Server Issues ***

Within the last week, our hosting provider carried out an upgrade to the server software. This upgrade increased the requirement for memory beyond the server's capacity. As a result, we have been experiencing downtime on a daily basis. The only solution to this was to relocate to a higher capacity s...

Re: Logging in

Clicking the link to clear cookies will log you out intially, but should help resolve any issue with invalid cookies. I made a slight change to the site this morning to try and handle the Cloudflare content network better. Clicking the link again now may well resolve the issue (once you log back in ...

Re: Logging in

First port of call with any issue of this nature should always be to click the "Delete all board cookies" link at the bottom right corner of the page. The site uses SSL for security throughout and certificates need renewing regularly. At last renewal, I moved from standard SSL to Cloudflar...

Re: No more dogs for Xmas in China

Just a gentle reminder to please keep any content family friendly please. I’m happy to take a pretty laid back approach to enforcing rules in The Snug, but I think the image posted on this thread was going a bit too far, so it has been removed.

Re: Ok......who broke the forum?

Not just you - the server fell over late last night. I gave it a reboot then, but found it had gone again by this morning Further investigation resulted in the discovery that it had filled its disk with log files resulting from dubious network requests - most likely originating from the millions of ...

Re: Whats happened to the gallery?

Thanks for pointing that out rocky. The gallery URL structure changed slightly when we switched to SSL throughout. The link mentioned was a static one, which needed updating, but had got overlooked. Should be OK now :-)

Cookie Setting Change

Just to let everyone know, I've just tweaked a cookie setting on the board to help ensure users can remain logged in after the recent switch to secure SSL hosting. Ironically, the short term effect of this is that it may actually cause people to be forcibly logged out. If anyone experiences a proble...

Re: Changes to forum security

On my phone I can log in but can't reply to posts and I keep being kicked back to log in stage but can see at bottom of index page I'm logged. I've checked it on my iPhone 5 and it's OK - but I don't have access to any other handsets to check with, so it's difficult to give you any pointers. I'd su...

Changes to forum security

As most people will be aware, as time goes on, security on the internet becomes more and more of an issue. To help keep web users safe, various organisations are encouraging site owners to switch from unencrypted content, to SSL secured content (denoted by https at the start of the web address). For...

Re: Remembrance Sunday 2013

Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen is the poem with which I engage the most - almost certainly for reasons which Owen himself would judge to be wrong. "Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori", a line from Roman times lifted from Horace's Odes, translates roughly as "It is sweet and ri...

He didn't. I deleted a number of posts from the thread, as they were off topic in a thread which might otherwise be beneficial to other members.
