I am trying to trace the birthplace and information on SAMUEL GRIGG. He was born about 1803. He married Mary Quire in Easton-in Gordano in 1824. At this time he was living in Long Ashton. Name changes

Can anyone explain why my ancestor may have dropped an 'S' in his surname. Prior to his move to Bristol, the surname always appears as OWENS but once in Bristol it only appears as OWEN. Is this common. I am sure it is the same family as I have checked and rechecked and there is no record of the name...

Thanks for replying - I had not been able to find him in 1891 so that is great. Somebody else has tracked him in 1851 (as Owens) but I cannot find the family in 1861.

Owen Family in Somerset

I am trying to trace the birth of Thomas Owen in Somerset. He was born in 1845 and in the 1881 census (Bristol) it says he was born in Thurloxton. In 1901 it says something i can't read beginning Sea? I have been unable to trace him in any other census. His father was George Owen

Family in 1861 census

Have you tried looking on 1837 online? They have the 1861 census index. I had a quick look, and there is an Elizabeth Nelson aged 13 in Liverpool. You have to pay to view the images but at least it gives you and idea.
