Re: Stuck already.

I've not tried it but as your dad was definitely a Barnado's child, you may wish to use m I think they hold pretty good records of all the kids who passed through their doors and therefore may give you some more information on the green side of the family or at least clarify who was looking after th...

ARC - Mary Ann(ora) Schofield - Midwife?

I'm trying to find out what happened to my great grandmother, Mary Ann Schofield b. in Northcamp in Aldershot in 1875. After being orphaned in 1882, she was sent to an orphanage in York. In 1901, she is in Box called Mary Annie Schofield working as a monthly nurse (nurse for mothers in run up to and...

Re: Pudsey Municipal Cemetery - plot f181, any headstone??

Thanks for the suggestions. It's a difficult one - as I have no idea of what relationship she has with the schofields, and freebmd confirms her name and age as houston, I can't pinpoint her from the suggestions you have all given - I suspect though she is the servant as fulneck is in the right area....

Pudsey Municipal Cemetery - plot f181, any headstone??

hi, my greatx3 grandfather and grandmother are buried in plot F181 in pudsey municpial cemetery. I found this info from a great site called calverley.info. However the transcript for the burials at the site also show that 2 other individuals are buried in the same plot - an infant (with surname scho...

Re: Adoptions pre 1927 - legal paperwork required?

hi - that was her in 1901. In 1911, she calls herself Mary Annora (a name she uses on the kids birth certificates) - her birth place of aldershot gives her away (no other mary schofields were born in Aldershot within a 10 year period). The Conroy bit got me excited at first but I found out it is the...

Re: Adoptions pre 1927 - legal paperwork required?

Apologies, I hadn't realised that I had some responses on this subject! My grandmother was Mary Aurelia Conroy Schofield born 5 Mar 1904 in Bath. Although family legend is that she was kept by her mother (Mary Ann Schofield born aldershot in Jan 1875) for a couple of years (which possibly has some t...

*archive?* Adoptions pre 1927 - legal paperwork required?

I know that adoptions were formalised in 1927 but curious to know what, if any, legalities were required prior to this date and if a legal transaction was made, where it might be recorded. My reason for asking is that my grandmother b. 1904 was adopted in around 1907 - she found out when she had to ...
