Re: Samuel James Holder

Thanks to Grangers14 for the 1911 data (That is very useful) and the info on Oldbury volunteers. I have already checked that in the last few days. I learned a lot but nothing specific about Samuel J.
Thanks again

Re: Samuel James Holder

Thanks Mallosa The Mary E entry is very interesting we hadn't thought of her being that young, but it is very promising. The entry of Rose marrying Mr Allen I had seen before but we don't think it is the right one. One extra detail that might help is that the family was centred on Wallace Road, Oldb...

Re: Samuel James Holder

Me again Hi Peterd shows the census entries for the Holder family in 1901 and you will see Mary E aged 6 and Rose a few months old. My wife has seen her Aunty Rose once in her childhood but I cannot find either of these ladies' marriages or deaths and she wasn't aware of Mary. Can anyone help with t...

Re: Samuel James Holder

Please don't move it,
My wife's Holder family have been in the Black Country area since Mid 1800's and this particular Holder was born and died in Oldbury.

Re: Samuel James Holder

Hi Peter
the memorabilia was a sword which was buried in the old marl hole that was being filled by refuse and medals which are goodness knows where now.
they may not have been his medals and the sword could have come from anywhere so we have no concrete proof. Only heresay.
Cheers

*ARC TBC* -- Samuel James Holder

Hi All My wife's grandfather was Samuel James Holder born 1871 d 1916 of TB. Not to be confused with his son of the same 1904/1983.(my wife's father) We know he had one leg, that he had wartime memorabilia in his possession and we believe he was possibly involved in the Boer War but cannot prove it....

Re: *Arc tbc* --Eel St.......-David Moss b abt 1876

Thanks for that info on Tango Debney on the boxing site. I was beginning to think I had dreamed it.
I always thought it was Devney although Debney was always a good alternative seeing how popular it is in the BC. In fact I went to school with 2 brothers named Debney.

Cheers

Re: Eel St...brought back for Roy....-David Moss b abt 1876

Hi Rob you are quite right, the Philpotts did live up Florence Road. No 19 to be precise. There was Henry (Harry) and Elizabeth (nee Moss known to all as Cissy). There was my late Dad Eric. The other siblings were Norman (now passed), Alan, Trevor (the athlete), Donald and Janet. Janet did marry Joe...

Roy from Oldbury saying Hi

Hi My name is Roy Philpotts and although I am actually Trevor Roy I only use the first name for bureaucracy. I hail from Oldbury and my father's family moved there from Herefords in mid 1800's. My mother's family hailed from Belbroughton and they met because of the link of Brades Nash and Tyzack bei...
