I regret to announce, I have stopped reading it.
I shall keep my opinions to myself until it comes to us discussing it properly. However, I will say that after getting about half way I had lost interest, and felt (like others) that the amount of detail was detracting from the plot.

Re: Strange first names
It was Fester in the Addams Family.
I agree it sounds like a nasty skin condition though. "I'm sorry, but you've got Festus" *cue EastEnders drum sequence*

Re: Recovering old memories
Thanks Mark, by the sounds of it I probably won't be able to get what I want from it then.

Recovering old memories
I appreciate that this is a bit of a shot in the dark, but does anyone have any experience with using hypnosis to relive past memories? There are a couple of things from my past that I'd like to re-live. Both events are ones which seemed rather mundane at the time, but without going into too much de...

Re: Pass the bucket....
Either way, the next doctor who prods me and asks, "Does this hurt?" will wake up with a black eye and my hands around their neck I personally think if you do that and end up in court, you should be able to plead provocation. I don't know of any doctor who, on hearing "My <insert bod...

Re: Pass the bucket....
Whatever it is, I seem to have caught something too. I'm vomiting, got a fever, constant headache, joint pain. Not exactly the best state to go to a job interview in, I'll happily admit that. When is the interview? It was yesterday morning. I still went to it, somehow managed to pull myself togethe...

Re: Popes visit
A friend of mine is going up to Glasgow to see him. To be honest, I can't really see the point. I'm also a lapsed Catholic, but I really can't see the attraction in it all. My mum once had an audience with the Pope, and she didn't seem too impressed, so I can't imagine seeing him from a distance as ...

Re: August is a cruel month!
Yeah, Woolies was the big white building (but I don't know when it closed down, as I don't remember there ever being one there). I think the picture was taken from the Ramada Jarvis at Piccadilly Gardens, other than that the only hotel I can think of in that area is the white building with the yello...

Re: August is a cruel month!
It's been a gorgeous day in Manchester today. Picadilly Gardens had their fountains going today, so lots of young people running around in them with the police just watching them. It did get to one point over lunch where it was near impossible to see any grass though, everyone was out trying to get ...

I'll be honest, I'm struggling to motivate myself to keep going with it.

Rumour has it that September is meant to be very nice. To quote the person who told me "We're supposed to be getting an Indian summer"

Re: August is a cruel month!
It is indeed a cruel month. The Bill ends next week, and this weekend signals the end of Last of the Summer Wine. Oh, and the weather is shockingly bad too. My poor wardrobe doesn't know how to cope. I have winter clothes and summer clothes, but I don't have anything that can cope with this weather ...

Re: Book Club
Has anybody tried an e-book yet - you know those small computer thingy's made just for reading text? They've started offering e-books at the library here. I'm actually reading The Time Travellers Wife as an e-book. I must admit, it's not the same as feeling the paper under my fingers but it is far ...
