Ah, cheers for that Linell - good to hear that things were civilised in the 1900's.

Re: 1918 Flu Epidemic
Thanks for the advice - I'll give the records office a try and see if I have any joy.
I'm guessing that during an epidemic they'd have used mass graves rather than individuals as they would have been pretty busy.

Re: Old House Deeds
You might get some information from the Land Registry. I know you can get hold of boundary plans (had to do this when our neighbour reckoned we'd built on his land, but that's another story).

Re: Birth Certificate for an adopted person
Can't see a problem with archiving this one as the original question has been sorted now.
I was going to keep updates in the one thread, but can always start another thread as and when progress is made.

Re: A quiz for know-alls
Thank you for the congratulations - I'd seen this quiz (or one like it) a while back so knew some of the trick questions.
On the lettuce front - the question does say not sold in other than it's fresh form. NL - does your mom sell the soup?

Re: Birth Certificate for an adopted person
Just a quick update - the birth certificate has been received and has filled in a few blanks. Marriage certificate and fathers birth certificate have now been ordered so some progress should be made in the coming weeks.
Thanks again for all the replies

Re: Advice for visiting fairs
This is the page I got the information from on ancester search. There are others listed on that page for later this year - October has Suffolk and Scarborough and November has Hull.
Dates and links on the link above.

Re: Birth Certificate for an adopted person
She's gone ahead and ordered it online from the GRO website. Time will tell if they issue it or not, but she quoted the references from the birth record on Ancestry.
She's not interested in finding the birth parents, more just curious about who they were and if they had any other family.

Re: Birth Certificate for an adopted person
Thanks for the reply Northern Lass. The link you posted seems to refer to the adoption certificate rather than the original birth certificate, pre adoption. I should have said in the previous post that she has the adoption certificate. Sorry for the confusion Chris EDIT - forgot to say that we have ...

Birth Certificate for an adopted person
Hi guys, I was showing the work that I've done on my family tree to a friend at work and she was interested in what information I had got and how I did the research, so I showed her the info on ancestry.co.uk. She wants to trace her family back, but as she is adopted we are unsure if there are any i...
