Old Newspapers are definitely NOT PC.

I have been looking through some old newspapers in the Cork, Ireland region to try to get through my irish ancestor brick walls and I have to say, old newspapers are definitely not politically correct. I just came across this one and had to share it: FATAL RAILWAY ACCIDENT An accident occurred on Fr...

Re: Lost Cousins

Good luck :) the 1881 census has the best chance of returns because that one was the first to be available on the site but it can take a while to get a hit. But you never know, you might get an email in 6 months when someone puts in one of your people :)

Re: Printing Family Tree

I think one day I will get mine professionally printed, if possible cos its up to nearly 3000 people now on my mums side! My dads side is much smaller, only 150 people so I printed it out myself by doing family by family and cutting and gluing it all together! it was a bit of fun although not very p...

Lost Cousins

I am just curious how many forum members are using lostcousins to help them find distantly related living cousins. For those who dont know, www.lostcousins.com is a free site when you put in census details of anyone you are related to (not just ancestors) from the 1861, 1881 and/or 1911 census briti...

Re: *Arc tbc* ---Tanner, Charles & Selina 1871 Census

completed thanks, I did try looking for turner before but too many responses. The wildcard tip was helpful, i only ever use them to complete a name like t* but obviously way too many returns unless you can be really specific with the rest of the info.

Thanks everyone

Re: Names on Inventory of goods dated 1633

Based on matching the letters to similar looking ones and the concensus so far on what the other words are I would say that surname is _holaus the second and third letters are written the same way as the h and o in thomas below, the l and a are similar to the l's and a in william and and the funky l...

Keeping in Touch??

Sites like this, lost cousins, emails through genealogy websites, cousin connect, all of those, often give us opportunities to get in touch with distant family members. For me it is always a thrill to get a new contact, send off that first email and get their first reply. Often new information comes...

Re: 1911 census look up pleeze

Hi Beardie, No results for Emily Nellie Baker and too many for Emily Baker so I searched the 1911 for Emily Baker b. 1909 +-2years with James living in household. These are the three results that had James as the father. If you know their place of birth then you should be able to work out which one ...

Re: Family History Book

The photo book should work well before. My aunt did an old photo one for my grandparents using My Reflections (google it) and it was really nice quality, looked great and you can download the software for free. It would probably be pretty easy to insert the census images and it comes with a heap of ...

Re: newbie question re websites

I know what you mean about limited resources, being a student, but about a month ago I decided to splurge on a subscription. I chose findmypast to get all the census and I use FreeBMD to search for birth, marriage & death records which I personally find easy to use after a bit of practice. I did...
