Unknown male
Unknown male, photo taken by Sutcliffe's of Burton, Westmorland.
They are both by a photographer from my village (Burton-in-Kendal, Westmorland) so are of interest to our local history society. So far we've not managed to identify who they are, so although they may be local to north Lancashire or Westmorland they could have come from further afield as Sutcliffe became something of a society photographer. Sutcliffe (born 1836, died 1891) carried the Royal Warrant of Photographer to the Prince of Wales (i.e. later King Edward VII) . His wife (b. 1849) carried on the business for some years after his death, so the photos could be anytime up until around 1910. There is nothing on the back of either to indicate who they were.

He looks like a gentleman in a couple of photos I have in an old family album of an Albert Hack taken by a professional photographer at Aston Manor - late 19th/early 20th century - album belonged to my great grandfather Nathan Taylor and includes photos of people he met (while travelling to America/around Birmingham) as well as family members. Finding the connection on a long list of to do's.
