There used to be houses on the left hand side and on the opposite side of the canal was a coal yard.Tommy Brain's.He'd deliver coal down Eel Street on his horse and cart.

If you carried on down the tow path you'd come to Tat Bank Basin where all "the Boatees" lived.
The boats were very colourful but as a kid i'd always be wary whilst cycling past.
