Joseph Baker (Old Black Joe) - help with a date - COMPLETED

Postby descartes46 » Sun Jun 08, 2014 10:12 am

Hi guys,

A while ago some of you very kindly helped me try and track down a date of death for my ancestor Joseph BAKER (b. 1848) who was a policeman in Birmingham. As he showed up on the 1901 census but didn't show up on the 1911 census we assumed he had probably passed away sometime between these dates. The most like match on the BMD was a record for 1905. However, I obtained that certificate and sadly it wasn't the correct Joseph BAKER. Lately some new evidence was provided to be by a very distant relative in Australia, and she was able to provide me with an obituary for Joseph BAKER (undated) saying he was 74 years old when he died. This will put his date of death as approximately 1922. I have attached the obituary as a jpeg. With this new data available I was wondering if somebody could help me find the appropriate death record so I can order a certificate? I get terribly confused when I search the BMD records and go around in circles.

Thanks in advance.
Darren.

Thanks Jimmy!
I think the June 1923 (Wolverhampton) record must be the correct match as his middle name was 'Abel'.
