Today I have received my Great Grandfathers Death Certificate
Thomas Wilson died 10 Feb 1909 age 42 Tube Dresser Cause of Death 'Phthisis Exhaustion' His wife Lucy was present at his death 21 Springhill Passage

I expect that since his mother married when he was so young then he just grew up using his step father's surname. He seems to have used his "real" surname for some official records but not for the census. My grandfather used both his father's and his mother's surnames and then double-barreled them as well
