New member - certificate query

Postby gillk16 » Wed Jul 16, 2014 6:58 pm

Hi I'm Gill and I've been researching various family trees for over 12 years now. However I've hit a problem. I've found issues with two certificates. I'm over 90% sure they're both the right ones but on the birth cert, the mother's name is given with a totally different surname. There is no record of a marriage for the parents and no record of the mother. On the marriage, it is Emily's second after being widowed. Her name is misspelt but you can read the signature ok. Her father's name is a compilation of the misspelling and who knows what. His occupation is the same throughout. There are too many correct facts to doubt. Any ideas? Am going round in circles ..... :(

Could the mother's surname be from a previous marriage rather than her maiden name? Is there a marriage for the father to a woman with the right first name? If it is a relatively late birth certificate have you tried to find siblings? Do you have the census information? (sorry for all the questions)
